We are open properly once more!!

It’s been a long road we’ve all travelled together but, hopefully, we’ve finally reached journey’s end. Gresford Community Library is fully open – there are no appointments, and no need to order ahead.

We want everyone who visits us to feel safe, and we understand that there is still some anxiety out there, especially among the over 60s like those of us who staff the library – we’re going to ensure that there is plenty of room for people to social distance if they wish, and we will still have hand sanitiser freely available for you to use when you arrive.

Most of our visitors are more comfortable if they, and the people in the room with them, wear a face covering so, for now, we’re going to ask our library users to continue to cover up when they come to see us. As things improve, and we all start to get our confidence back, we’ll review things like this again. If you would prefer to order ahead and just collect books we’re happy to continue this service for you.

At the moment we’re still only open on Tuesday afternoons 2-5 and Saturday mornings 10-1. We’ll be opening for more sessions, probably starting some time in September; keep an eye on our Facebook page, and the noticeboards in the village, for information on this. We’re sure our many volunteers will come back to help us once again as we add in more sessions.

Come and have a look and say hello

A lot of the people who have been using us since we re-opened for ‘order and collect’ back in July 2020 have been new library users; it’s been lovely to meet new people and make new friends. We hope they’ll stay with us and that they’ll be joined by the people who used to visit before the pandemic but who maybe didn’t feel able to mix much when things were bad.

The library looks really lovely. We’ve done quite a bit of work improving things during this strange time we’ve experienced, and we’ve added a lot of new books to our stock. Please come and have a look!

FREE BOOKS available for families from BookTrust Cymru ‘Book Donation Box’

Reading can be an important escape for so many children, but we know that many aren’t getting the same chances to access books that they were before the COVID 19 crisis hit. This winter BookTrust Cymru are offering organisations in Wales free books to share with children and families in the form of a ‘Book Donation Box’. Each box contains 30 books, including a mix of English and bilingual titles suitable for children age 0-5.
To order a Book Donation Box please email booktrustcymru@booktrust.org.uk by Thursday 12th November. Boxes are allocated on a first come first served basis as stocks are limited.
Families may also be interested to know about the BookTrust Cymru Home Time Hub which includes books, rhymes, stories, activities, videos and resources to help families keep their children entertained at home, in English and Welsh. https://www.booktrust.org.uk/hometime-cymru
This book gifting campaign is funded by Welsh Government.

‘Order and Collect Service’ for you at Gresford Community Library

‘Order and Collect Service’  – designed to keep the virus at bay
How does the ‘Order and Collect’ service work?

It’s really easy. You can order the books you’d like by ‘phone, by sending an email or by simply completing the online order form which you can find on our website – just fill it in and press ‘SUBMIT’. Other people have been telling us what they’d like by putting a note through our letterbox, or by leaving a message on our ‘phone – please remember to give your name, library card and contact numbers, and to speak slowly and clearly.

Some people are simply coming along to the library and telling us what they’d like; we’re putting their orders together, there and then, sanitizing hands before and after handling any books.

Another great way to do it is to browse online. Go to the Wrexham Library catalogue and log in using your library card number and your library PIN. (If you don’t know your PIN, get in touch – we can look on the system and tell you what it is.) Once logged in, go to ‘Advanced Search’, which is at the top right of the screen. About halfway down the next screen you will see the heading ‘Additional Limits’ and there you will see ‘Library’. Click in the list of libraries – it’s a long one – type in ‘gre’ and it will jump you us.

Choose Gresford and click ‘Advanced Search’. Finally, select ‘Gresford’ from the list of libraries on the left of the next screen and choose ‘Include’ Bingo! You can look at our list of authors, also on the left, and see the books which are actually on our shelves. Click ‘more’ to add to the list of authors. Choose the book(s) you want, one-by-one, (‘Place Hold’); we’ll get them ready for you to collect next time we’re open.

Don’t forget – you can borrow from our extensive jigsaw library (not part of the online catalogue; send us an order form for these). We’re very happy to receive your donated jigsaw and books too.

New books for you and yours

We’re adding lots of new stock to our shelves all the time. For the youngsters, we’ve recently added all the Chris Hoy Flying Fergus books, some X-Storey Treehouse books plus David Baddiel’s brilliant children’s books. We also have Key Stage 2 topic boxes, covering areas such as science, maths and history, to help with the return to learning. For the grownups, we’ve added the latest by Elly Griffiths, Dilly Court and Mark Billington, among others.

If there are books or authors you would like us to stock, please let us know. For the moment we are only open on Tuesday afternoons (2-5) and Saturday mornings (10-1). You can return books any time we’re open. See you soon!!
