Find and request a book
All the stock in GDCL belongs to Wrexham County Borough Council (WCBC) Library Service (apart from the books and DVDs which people have been kind enough to donate to us).
When you come to GDCL you have access to all the books, DVDs etc. which WCBC owns. If you want something which is currently on the shelf in another North Wales library we can request it for you in a couple of minutes. The WCBC library van calls every Tuesday and anything you request will usually be delivered the Tuesday after you request it. If you’re after a very popular book – for example the latest by James Patterson or Penny Vincenzi – it will probably take a fair bit longer for the book to arrive because lots of people will have requested it and there will be a waiting list. This will be the case whether you request it with us or in Wrexham because we use the WCBC computer system. All requests stay on the system for a full year so, even though you might wait a while, and might even forget that you’ve requested a book (!) the computer will remember and will deliver it for you eventually as long as it’s somewhere in the system.
Did you know that you can request a book before it’s published? If you know that the next blockbuster by your favourite author is due out in two months you can get higher up the waiting list by pre-requesting it!
CBC online catalogue: The online catalogue is now up-and-running once again! You can now manage your library account yourself online – renew books you have borrowed (and so avoid those pesky fines!) and request books to be delivered to your preferred library so that you go go there to pick them up. Click here to go to the WCBC Online Library Catalogue to see if we’ve got the book(s) you’re looking for.
This link will take you to the WCBC Library page so that you can see all the online services they now have to offer.
